Here is the description of "The High Sierra of California" book from it's original prospectus:

Prospectus: The High Sierra Of California

THE QUAIL PRESS is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of a large folio volume, The High Sierra of California. The book will be lavishly illustrated with forty wood and linoleum cut prints of the High Sierra hand printed from the original blocks by the artist. The text will be excerpted from the Sierra journals of the Pulitzer prize-winning California poet Gary Snyder, John Muir and Tom Killion. An introduction by Killion will explore connections between the experiences of Muir and Snyder in the High Sierra and the possibilities of the high mountains as a place of spiritual pilgrimage for people past and present. The focus of the book will be the truly high range, the backcountry above nine thousand feet, accessible only on foot, running from Yosemite south to the Whitney and Kaweah ranges. The High Sierra will be divided into sections evoking the four high mountain seasons. The Spring text will be drawn from the Yosemite journals of John Muir, written during 1871-75. The Summer and Fall texts will be drawn from the unpublished backpacking journals of Gary Snyder, covering the years 1955,1958, 1964-66 and 1991. The Winter text will be drawn from the artist's winter mountaineering journals from the 1970s through 1990s. Snyder's journals will make up the bulk of the text, and are particularly interesting because they contain the raw material and context for dozens of his poems which have appeared in Riprap, Myths & Texts, The Backcountry and Mountains and Rivers Without End. A final section will contain notes and sources on the texts and illustrations.

The High Sierra of California will be hand printed on forty-four sheets of Kozo Torinoko and Ise handmade Japanese paper measuring fourteen and three-quarters by nineteen and one-half inches. Each seasonal section will open with an appropriate Japanese decorative paper: a water pattern (Kanze) for Spring, a sun pattern (Bekko) for Summer, a miniature maple leaf-inlaid lace paper for Fall, and a snow-flake pattern (Asanoha) for Winter. Twenty-five of the images will be multi-colored prints, involving three or more separate blocks, with several images utilizing as many as eight separate blocks. Thirteen images will be printed in two colors, and the remainder will be in a dark blue-black. Nine of the images will be full-page size, and eighteen will be half-page size. The text will be hand printed from Centaur and Arrighi metal type on the artist's Asbern handpress. The book will be hand bound in hand printed colored papers over boards with a cloth spine.

The High Sierra of California will be limited to ninety numbered and twenty-six lettered copies, and eight artist's copies. The numbered copies will come in a lined cloth-covered slipcase with one half-page size signed and numbered edition print laid in. The lettered copies will come in a cloth-covered clam-shell box with a separate folio of eight edition prints suitable for framing (2 full-page size; 4 half-page size; 2 quarter-page size). We expect The High Sierra to be available in April of 2000.
