Special Medium-Format Giclee Edition: 2022

Printing History: The Twin Pines were sketched by Killion on a backpack trip near Mitre Basin with his poet friend Gary Snyder in 2008. Gary remarked that the trees reminded him of the Japanese Noh play “Takasago” that tells the story of an elderly couple who tended the shrine where they were mysteriously embodied in its twin trees. Some lines of this ancient play later became popular in wedding ceremonies: “Happy are the pines born in one era and growing old together.” This view of “Twin Lodgepole Pines” was first created as a multi-block woodcut in 2011 (sold out). An enlarged Iris-print edition of 45 measuring 28x15 was printed in 2014 (sold out). A Large format giclee print edition of 85 (2018) is also sold out. This Special Giclee Edition numbered as SM (smaller) Roman Numerals I-XXXVI (36) was created as a companion to the special smaller-format giclee edition of the “Giant Sequoias” and “Middle Palisade Peak/Western White Pine”. Sold out.
